About his works : Debabrata De’s bronzes are rustic and earthly in its essence; his women Lakshmi Chachi, smoking a hookah and Bidhu Sundari, looking at herself in the mirror are based on the philosophy that they were once beauties and still are reminiscent of their youth. The detailing of the armlet , hand mirror , the hookah or the jewelry bring about the expertise that De has over the material , where it literally dances to his tunes . His men in his works ‘Ganesh Babu’ effortlessly depicted in his siesta stupor ot Adda , where the three men are smoking and indulging in evening chat( called Adda, in Bengali) couldn’t be more reminiscent of Bengal.
