Basak’s journey as an artist began with his graduation in 1977 from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata.

Thirteen group shows in Calcutta, Mumbai, New Delhi, including the National Exhibition, AFA, Birla Academy, Eastern India Exhibition, The Bombay Art Society Centenary, Art Mosaic, Calcutta through The Eye of Painters etc.
